Carb cleaning tip! And needed part....
« on: January 05, 2015, 02:57:18 AM »
I've read a lot about different "solutions" for these HF ultrasonic cleaners.... What works best, doesn't work, blah blah.

Opinions are like a$$holes, so here's what I've found....

Pinesol does work decent, but takes quite a while.

Simple green is decent too, but again it takes a while.

(Both of these, I've found, do leave behind some gook in those nasty ones.

Lemon juice..... No thanks! I haven't tried it straight -always with the aforementioned products in varying strengths-, but it seems to be a little TOO acidic and etches the aluminum.

What I've learned has worked like a champ, is barrymans chem dip.

There is a lot of talk about the newer barrymans being different than the older stuff, and that is very true. I have a 12 year old pail of it, and that stuff is just nasty strong. This newer stuff has a whole different stink to it, and seems a little weaker.

HOWEVER, the new barrymans in a HF cleaner does AMAZING!!!!!

But, DO NOT leave the heat function on, it causes some sort of sticky film to form on the parts, which is a pain to get off. Just let the heat function warm the dip. About 80ish....warm pool water.

Run the carbs or bits for about four cycles (flipping carbs over between each two), then spray with carb clean and blow out with compressed air.

I just finished a rack with this method and was blown away at how well it did.

Also cleaned up a very abused and disgusting quad carb to look like new.

That being said.... I'm also in desperate need of a carb piece... Not sure what it's called...

While preparing to clean some carbs tonight, I realized that a rack I'd taken apart about 12 years ago suffered some damage to the arm assembly that lifts the slide on the #4 carb. If anyone has one of these arms that they'd part with, please get ahold of me. These are off a 750K4.

+1 on the Berrymans, in fact it works fine without the ultrasonic.  Gunk brand carb dip is even better plus rubber parts are unharmed for up to a half hour soak.
If it works good, it looks good...

Have to agree with Sean...have not used Berrymans, but have always used the Gunk gallon carb dip with great results. And the fact it does not harm rubber parts is a real plus.

Never tried gunk. I'd used barrymans in the past. And that older stuff would knock a guy out.
