Topic: cb500 71 clutch bits question

I took apart my 71 cb500 a couple years ago, not quite remembering where everything goes thinking no problem, I'll just look at the 72 cb500 if I ever get stuck.  However, in putting the clutch back together my 71 has a neutral stopper in the picture below (71_clutch) while the 72 has a menagerie from the other photo.  I have no such contraption in my box of 71 parts and see nothing on the 72 that resembles the part I have and the parts fiche seem to show both configurations so I believe that they must have made a change between the model years going from my single piece to the contraption I see on the 72.  Can anyone confirm that before I gasket up the clutch side and move on?

Justin I'm no real super expert on the different years but the '72 photo is correct, check out the schematics on the downloads here and look on CSMNL's web site here's a shot from CsMNL '71 schematic.

that first incarnation of the drum stopper wasn't used for long,it fouled up too easy,you can just use any later 500 complete linkage assembly in its place,you must use the drum end plate etc and all small parts in that upgrade sectioned off schematic,ive never seen an early one.

There was also a oil guide plate that was not fitted to the early CB500K0's and the K0 clutch push rod should be one piece of steel. It was changed to a 3 part rod for the K1's and onwards.
