CB550 Tappet adjustment nuts
« on: January 05, 2015, 03:24:21 PM »
Went to adjust the valves on the 1975 CB550 and two of the tappet adjustment lock-down nuts are stripped (rounded off and can't get a wrench on them).  I was able to get them off but do not want to reuse them.  Can I use any old M6 fine thread nut that will thread on properly or are these special parts that I need to get through Honda?  Thanks

Yeah, I just ordered them from my Honda dealership.  Hopefully they will be in soon.  I was just wondering about a substitute so I could finish the job today, but I guess it is better to wait and use the factory part.

The nuts are thicker than a standard nut.

I think they are M6x0.75 - hard to find and they are also not just any old nuts, they are treated.  Stakes are too high IMHO to use a generic nut and proly you would not find them localy anyway.
