350f seat (lack of forethought)
« on: October 08, 2006, 10:26:29 AM »
So I am sitting here with a 350f bike and a 500f seat. It fits just fine unless I put the pins in and then it is forward by a coule of inches. So I need advice.
Do I try to find someone who can move the bracket on the pan forward?
Do I try and find a 350 pan and transfer the foam and cover from the 500?
Do I find someone who wants to trade?
This is truly a bummer.

Any suggestions on how I could move forward with option A ?  Has anyone here done it?

The seat looks great, only a few pin holes from a over zelous kitty. No appreciable sun damage. I am just not in the know on this stuff. Do I just find someone with welding equipment and see what they can do?

I don't assume there is any sort of conversion kit.

If it is spot welded there is hope! You can drill out the welds and remount the brackets with rivets. That way you won't destroy the foam with heat!

Is this not a JB Weld kind of situation?

probably not... i'd agree with the rivet idea though.  should be pretty simple.

Any hardware store or even Wal-mart would carry one.

get a decent one with a number of different size rivets.  or make sure you know what size rivets you need.  a rental place may have one to rent but i doubt it.

good luck

The hinge and the latch piece are both bolted to the seat pan.  Just unbolt the bracket and latch piece and set the seat in place to check fit.  I think you'll notice the underside of the 500F seat is not a real good fit to the 350F frame, and the rear rubber bumper misses the frame loop by about an inch, height-wise.  The front rubber bumpers on the 500F pan are intended to sit on the round frame rails and are spaced about 3/4 inch too wide for the 350F frame, etc., etc.   The 500F uses a different latch design than the 350F.   The distance between the hinge pins and latch piece are about an inch wider on the 500F than the on the 350F.  I don't think the upholstery swap will work very well, since the 500F seat is about 2" longer than a 350F seat.   Good luck.

It looks like the answer is eBay it and look out for a 350 seat.

I know Steve, that was the answer I dreaded to hear. And here I was thinking I could get through this without a whole lot of thinking.

Since it is now abundantly clear that there is no model compatability on these things, how about year compatability? Anybody? It would drastically help my ebay searches.

I don't think that there were any differences between the 350s.

How is the 500 seat and does it have the strap? (mine doesn't)

The seats are identical for all CB350Fs, regardless of year.

A seat from any year CB350F four-cylinder will fit on any other year CB350F four-cylinder.

The 350(twin) and the 350F are as compatible as mounting a Yamaha seat. Sorry.
