Kevin, if you are still around . . . how about a 400f seat on a 350f . . are we still in apples and oranges territory? I'm gettin all bummed

The hinge, latch and rubber bumpers match and the underseat contour is generally the same, but the front of the 400F seat is shorter by an inch or so (to accomodate the longer 400F tank); the rear of the 400F seat is MUCH longer and will hit the 350F grab rail.

But the sum of the required modifications seem to be less than that of other options. Any thoughts on what could be done with a 2 inch gap between the tank and the seat?
Would there be an issue with putting a 400 tank on to compensate?

As far as hinge and latch are concerned, are we talking a perfect match?

The latch is OK, but the hinge tabs on the frames are a little different, requiring you to move the hinge piece on the 400F seat pan forward about 1/2" so.  Not a huge deal, since the pan is pretty flat in that area.  You could use the 400F tank on the 350F frame, but the OEM 350F headlight mount ears will crunch into the tank at full lock (the 400F used bare fork tubes). Surely an OEM 350F seat pan will show up for you, but if you get your hands on a 400F seat and want to continue using the stock 350F tank, I believe I would remove the upholstery, fab an extension for the front of the pan to fill the gap properly, add foam as needed, rework the rear of the pan an appropriate amount and reinstall custom upholstery.

It's all good Bryan. You had damn good reasons.

Perhaps someone out there will share your sypathies and dig through their garage for that old 350f seat they are pretty sure they still have . . . .

How long does it usually take for them to get back to you?

Only dealt with them once... only took a day or two. I couldn't tell you if that is consistent or not. Heck, given the amount of bikes he has on that site he may very well be looking to make sure he still has the part before he gets back to you.

Cool, he got back to me. He has a few, likely with torn covers for 40-60 bucks. He says he can recover for about 100. A little out of my budget, but perhaps I can recover myself or take it to a place.

No offence pouchey, but you really should check out the FAQ section on where to buy parts for your bike.

http://www.oldbikebarn.com/part.php?id=955&subcategory=Seat%20Covers&bike=CB350&DisplayPerPage=20

Both of the links I have provided have come from vendors listed there.

No offense taken, but if I was to buy a torn seat from Charlie and wait a month for a 60 dollar cover I would be in for 100-120. When I see the amount of people out on the forums who pay for custom glass seats, I know there are originals around somewhere. Hopefully, for less than 100 bux. But I appreciate you links none the less.

Well there are some options, but they are all looking pretty pricey. At some point hopefully someone will find one in their garage and feel sypathetic. Ebay has been pretty slow on the seat front and bidding always bums me out cause I usually loose or the good price shoots up too high at the last second. I am a little leary of doing a mod on a seat that doesn't fit, I would hate to buy and ship a seat only to find out I don't have the proficiency to make a workable conversion. Even if I find something thats is ugly, I am more confident in my ability to recover and/or refoam it than mess with the pan itself.

I think this seat is off a 400 (or thats atleast what the guy who sold me my 750 thought it was...)
No real tears just a lil' wear, and it's missing the strap. Also, no mounting hardware... I would let it go cheap if it fit's your needs (seems like this thread has been here a long time!)

Let me know

I have a tank too not sure if it was off the same bike.

I re-upholstered my cb750k seat for under $20 looks great , but there are obviously no "grooves pressed in", But then again I am great at hand stitching and making things from scratch, only took me 2-3 days to sew too.

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble finding one, thought i could share my good re-up story to help cheer you up

Thanks Jev . . . can anybody offer any imput on the 400 seat??

Thanks Dougie.

Yeah, I am strangely unafraid of recovering (even if I had to send a pattern up to my mom in Salem Oregon so she could have a go at it.)
