Author Topic: Help with finding name of music group - Found it (Read 870 times)

Like the title says there was a music group on Gawker that they featured on a blurb a few weeks ago where they played the music video of a group that consisted of a European DJ and an American rapper that produced some sweet sounds. Laid back break beat stuff with mellow rap by the vocalist while the video visuals was a camera at the front of a car (or some vehicle) as it went through a city in fast motion. I looked it up on Allmusic and it is a group that has been together (making albums) I think since the early naughts until now.

I should have emailed the group name to myself so I could remember it and buy their albums but I forgot it and all searches on google, gawker and Allmusic have proven fruitless. Help me music people!!

Was it Tricky?...didn't hear what you are talking about, just a guess based on your description...

No, I know Tricky.
The DJ was definitely European and the rapper was American from the Allmusic description. I just can't find it again.
And it sounded pretty damn good and mellow.
And they were not a very mainstream group as far as I could tell because I had never heard of them before I saw the blurb on Gawker about the video.

I had something similar happen a few years ago. I saw a great music video for a song done in the early/mid 90's by a guy group. I remember a white set with the band playing, I think the singer had long blonde hair, something about a girl being a #$%* and her daddy something...and near the end of the song they started throwing paint around. It could have been just red paint, I don't remember now. I think there may have been a Red Strat in the vid, too. I have searched, I have asked reddit...no one has been able to figure it out.

There were a lot of groups in the 90's that were similar to tricky. Tricky coming from Massive Attack. Could it be Faithless that you're thinking of? Or as easy as Gorrilaz?

Nope, nope, I know those groups. This group (it seems more like a side project for both artists) have been putting out albums since the naughts until now.
It was a group I had never heard before I watched that video on Gawker.
I scoured both Allmusic and Gawker for several hours this weekend and came up empty.
I will figure it out eventually.
