Are You Part of a Club
« on: January 08, 2015, 04:45:17 AM »
A couple of young Danish backpackers working at a walnut farm adjacent to our clubhouse plucked up enough courage to lob on our door step looking for a beer one night.

The attached letter was found some weeks later tacked to our door. It demonstrates why I am so proud of the club I helped establish way back in 1981.

I want no part of any club that would have me as a member.

I've been in a car club for 35 years, We've put on car shows, cruises and this year we'll have a two day show with a cruise, show and a swap meet. At times it was 30 members, once down to 2 of us drinking a beer once a month but we're up to 7 or 8 members again.  This year we sponsored an American Legion baseball team and sent veterans on the honor flight.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

I remember introducing ourselves in freshman class one time. I asked this guy with a windsurfing  shirt on if he actually surfed. He affirmed, which surprised me.

As we went around class everyone first gave their greek affiliation. I was one of the last and claimed I was in an organization all my own. Jimmie, the sailboarder said he 'de-pledged' because of me saying that.  He is who told me about how the US team won by pulling the dagger board out going downwind. Old school boards..
