Anyone know why the petcock for a 1978 is different from the 1976 and 1977?  There are 2 different part numbers.

I am not sure of the difference, however, I did find that 1 part from CB750Supply works for both.  I cannot confirm it works for '76-'77, but I currently have one on my '78 and its working well.

Maybe it had a different type of internal filter or possibly no filter on one of them, but the threaded portion and whatnot were identical.
