Muffler cans — suggestions
« on: January 13, 2015, 04:15:37 PM »
So I am looking for a muffler. I want it to be small and tuck up under the passenger pegs...but still be baffled

Was thinking that a Supertrapp might work and look good (something like the link below). but I have also be watching craigslist for modern stock cans that people swap out for the fancy carbon ones. I want it to look good, but not TOO modern and out of place...mostly I want it to vanish and tuck away and still keep the noise levels down

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SuperTrapp-4-Aluminum-Universal-Exhaust-Muffler-2-ID-/400525948137?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d4134f4e9&vxp=mtr

Any suggestions or ideas very welcome.

I will be using these headers

and I know that I will need some fabricating done to join it all together

I might get flamed for saying it but harley take-offs are usually decent quality and can be had fairly inexpensively. I have a set of these on a CB450 with a 2 into 2 exhaust and they work quite well and are almost too quiet.

The 12" reverse cone is minimally muffled.  Has a slightly deeper growl compared to an open 4:1, but a similar dB.
The 18" reverse cone "quiet core" has a wonderful tone, at idle and at 6000rpm  ;D  but it might be too long for your application.
here's my setup.

Another option is to run an DB Killer insert right in the end of your header.  I ran one of these right in the end of my kerker header, just past the collector.  Painted it w/ black VHT, and it couldnt be seen.  Worked great at decreasing the dB.

I don't think he wants a conventional. Chrome muffler, he already has one, he wants an alloy canI  am thinking...... Take major balls to cut that exhaust up...

Actually, I wouldn't cut that pipe up either, that could easily be sold for reasonable money considering its rarity...

Mac makes a slip on for the 75/76 750F. Could maybe work with your pipe??

Oh, I'm not cutting nothing...I'll have two pipe options

I want a baffled, not loud pipe that I can tuck in close to the bike.

My current sticks WAY out the side.

I'm working on another tank and seat. Thinking this short tucked in pipe idea will really made the bike look tight and compact. As well as not potentially drag.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.
