GV,

Keep an eye on the braking plate as it undergoes heat cycles from riding.  I had a laser cut rear brake plate that deformed and failed, because the cut-outs could not handle the stress of the heat cycles.  I caught it in time before pieces of the brake plate fell into the drum.  You're cut-outs have more material left over so you probably will not experience such issues -- it's just something to look out for safety-wise.  Also, you may want to line the inside of the cut-outs with some mesh to keep larger objects (leaves, etc.) from getting inside the shoe.

Looking sexy and damn that thing is going to be a cornering machine!  Which length Hagons did you have to use with the swingarm?  (Sorry if that has already been addressed.)

What would you do differently with the exhaust?

Thank you sir!

I dealt with a fine gentleman Dave from Dave Quinn Motorcycles and he spec'd them for my weight and for the weight of the motorcycle. I believe I went with 13.2" if my memory serves me correct.

Exhaust is a toss-up still. I've been exchanging emails with Kemp from Ripple Rock Racers who provides exceptional technical support and customer service and I'm not even a customer, yet! Super stoked to see the direction of that! :)

Thanks Don! Noted as usual. I was planning on running some sort of mesh. What's typically used anyway? Haven't gotten to the point of sourcing the mesh just yet, my plate is a little full with other objectives.

GV,

I have not used mesh or larger cut-outs on the brake plate before, but I've seen other members do it on theirs.  I would suspect you'd want something a little heavier gauge and that will not rust.  How to secure it is the question.  Run some searches on the forum to see if you can find more detailed pictures of others who have executed it.

Bump.

What are you guys/gals using for masters/lever and clutch perch/lever setup? I currently have a 04/05-ish Z1000 Nissin master but I'd like short black levers, not having much luck on finding something that isn't chincy and cheap looking, especially those awful adjustable levers. On the clutch side I was planning on running AOF perch and lever.

I wouldn't completely rule out buying another master if I had to, but it has to be small as I'd like less clutter on the clip-ons. I found a company in Sweden called ISR that makes some pretty rad masters but they can only be contacted via phone or fax, weird.

For what it's worth, I will be running an internal throttle setup with a clutch and brake lever, no electronics on the bars what's so ever.

Interested to see other setups.  :)

Not much of an update but updates are good. Figured I'd share the latest accomplished task and open the door to some hate:

This:

Turned into this:

Also picked up this cheap 78' CB750 Super Sport. Only really bought it as it's matching years as my CB550 plus, it's a SS.

I wouldn't call it hate, but why the complicated brake actuation setup? Adding 2 devices to operate a pull lever? For that much $ and time spent, why not buy a disc hub from a SS and install it? Kind of like putting a bow tie on a Thanksgiving turkey...  ???

You tricked me!  As I was reading the post, I was waiting to see what kind of disc conversion you were using.  No "hate" but (especially with all of the restomod parts on your bike) I would go full monty with a disc rear -- or switch to a race drum.  Keep on keeping on!!

Bought them from Coginto Moto. Added some aesthetics to them and needed some work for them to work for my setup.

Between Saturday night and all day Sunday the following was done:

Shifter side done, tail light mounted, internal throttle assembled, coil packs and rear reservoir mounted, kickstand modified, muffler tag holes welded/sanded down, fancy C5 ignition system install initiated. Can't thank my friend Christian (@Newman on here) enough throughout this entire build, he's been really coming through as of late. Stoked to see how it's panning out so far!

What do you have left on your punchlist for this build.  It looks pretty close.

So GV,

What do you have left on your punchlist for this build.  It looks pretty close.

The list never ends somehow....sigh.

-Finish up the ignition install, had to get some different NGK boots for routing (insert OCD here)
-Scratch built complete harness
-Clutch cable
-Starter delete plug
-Under tail aluminum cover for aesthetics and to retain my R&R combo unit
-Rear fender
-Swap in a bunch of nice SS hardware
-Mount seat
-Find alternative petcock with carb clearance
-Modify rear brake rear-set for kicker clearance

Just a quick list for now, even though theres tons of other tasks on the list. I have a 61.5mm piston kit that was supposed to go in but, I may just build the spare 550 motor to throw in eventually.

Still researching a different caliper and rotor setup. Was looking into the newer style GSXR Brembo calipers and a Brake Tech floating iron rotor but not sure yet. Also looking for shorter levers that'll also work with my MC.

I had to modify the kick lever for my 550. I found it easier to do than screwing with the rears itself. Essentially, shortened the arm, then welded the "toe" back on. Provides ample leverage and clears my fixed position peg easily.

"Complete harness" Ha! Your bike only has a headlight, tail/brake, and igntion. Thats like 5 wires and probably the easiest thing you've undertaken  ;D

If you go the under tail route with the aluminum vanity shield (doing something similar on my 500) give some thought to rivet nuts installed in the underside the frame rails. Easy to then use button head socket caps for a clean, professional look.

Do you happen to have a picture of your kicker, just out of curiosity that is.

Let's not forget I'll have a neutral and oil light as well that require some wires! :)
