Damn man, you should have done the test fitting before you painted the tank. The best option for this would be to cut and weld the petcock bung in a non-interfering place on the bottom of the tank. You'll get it sorted though.

Gennaro - I can't tell from the pictures, but it seem the rear of your tank is sitting above the retention tab? Or is the rubber tab not in place? Perhaps an easier/better modification is to cut and lower the front mounting sticks for your tank. This would increase the top clamp/tank spacing, give you that forward pitch aesthetic, and maybe help with relocating the petcock to the front half of the tank as it would now be the lowest point. You'd have to probably be close to the interior tunnel for the petcock to clear the valve cover and avoid the coils. Or is there a different model of petcock that might work if you swap the bung?

One of the reasons why I am relocating the stock petcock and swapping to a Pingle -- since I am running a 750F tank on a 550 frame with a 650 engine and aftermarket carbs.

Wouldn't most of your problems be solved running 17s instead of 18s, and longer rear shocks? Also using the stock carbs for your stock motor would solve the clearance issue.

17s present a different set of issues.  Stock carburetors are not really a viable option for GV now that he's shelled out for the CRs.

Also need to figure out a petcock solution as it also interferes with my CR's.

When I ungraded to CR26 carbs I quickly discovered there was interference with the stock fuel petcock.



I couldn’t find a petcock that would clear the carbs so the interim solution was to machine a straight stainless steel fuel nipple and use an inline fuel tap from Motion Pro. This setup doesn't have a fuel reserve so I've had to learn my distance to empty range and adjust accordingly.

The tank may have not been in the rubber place, I'd have to double check honestly. I've searched petcocks back when this was a primary concern and came up empty handed. I will figure something out without cutting the tank back up.

17s present a different set of issues.  Stock carburetors are not really a viable option for GV now that he's shelled out for the CRs.

I still prefer 17's also, stock carbs are not a viable option for my setup, period. I wanted carbs no one around here has, something I never had to worry about. I also wanted these carbs for when a different motor goes in, one day far far down the road. Buy it right the first time.

Yessir. This will most likely be the solution, just stinks no reserve especially considering I ride my motorcycles a TON, they aren't garage queens.
