The distillery is about two hours away from me and it was unaffected by the fire that ravaged Gatlinburg several months ago destroying over 1000 structures.  Have a friend who is a firefighter and several crews went dow there to assist fighting the fire in the wind gusting up to 80 mph.  They were fighting their way into Gatlinburg and 3 full crews were battling some fires going in and they were surrounded by fire at one point and facing imminent death when they were saved by God sending rain.  You can't fight fire in 80mph winds...just doesn't work.
Locally you can buy the Ole Smokey Salty Caramel shown or several variants of their moonshine. Their tour in Gatlinburg offers a $5 tasting of their products as well and they are open from 10-10.  Not sure if the tours are going on all day like that, but likely are...
The distillery is included a top rated tour list; the 10 best southern distilleries to tour.

Only available in TN!
I first tasted it at my brother-in-law's in Columbus, GA.  Then I had my local liquor store order me 2 bottles of the stuff.  The one in the photo is the 2nd bottle because the first one is already a dead soldier.

PM me your address Don and I'll hook you up.  It would be nice to have a lawyer in the Betty Ford Clinic with me in case I need some legal advice!  ;)

That stuff looks like liquid crack. Unfortunately, you cannot mail liquor across state lines.  You can use a private carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL).  Since GV works for FedEx, he can hook it up.

Anyone recall what they were hauling in Smokey & The Bandit movie?
That liquid was not available outside Colorado,  it seems to my recall that was true or had been?

Correct.  It used to be illegal to bring Coors east of the Mississippi River.  That was the premise of the movie.

It is still a dry county and town that Jack Daniels Distillery is located in here in Tennessee.  So, you can not imbibe  in Lynchburg, in public or on Jack Daniels distillery property.
Nothing prevents us from transporting personal or gifts quantities across the country...
Don't think you can take a trailer truck load across the country without paying the appropriate  taxes if you are selling the product.
Some wineries are able to ship some wines between states, but not always.  Sometimes they do not offer certain varieties/products via their wine clubs but only at their winery.  There is a winery in Avila Valley near San Luis Obispo, Paragon Winery that has a fantastic dessert wine only available at the winery. It is an ice wine from the Orange Muscat grape that I find delicious.

Also a fan of Bulleit and Basil Hayden, but need to branch out like you are planning.

Looks like a Gamma in the back of that building. Would be a blast to have a stroll through that collection!

Agreed! Those have been by go-to choices but time to see what else is out there. Especially if I can taste something that is from the same manufacturer but doesn't carry the hefty price tag.

If you're ever out this way let me know. He has a TON of bikes. He also has storage with a very well off local guy that has over 100 pristine vintage bikes.
Does that offer apply to others as well?  I'm going to be at Niagara Falls on August 11th and 12th.  Me and 3 other riders are flying up to Pittsburgh on August 5th where we will rent bikes (through Eaglerider.com by the way...if you don't know about it, it's pretty awesome).  We will ride up through Scranton, PA into NY on Sunday...into Canada on Sunday and go through Quebec City (2 days), Toronto (1 day), Ottawa (1 day) before ending up at Niagara Falls on Friday and Saturday before we return the bikes Saturday afternoon and fly home.  I would absolutely LOVE to visit this guy's place if possible, just to see that sight in person.

Also, if you like the taste of caramel or butterscotch, I HIGHLY recommend this whiskey I found 2 weeks ago.  I'm really hoping one of you guys will try it so that you get hooked on it and I have company when I have to check into the Betty Ford clinic because of it. ;)  It's not too sweet...but it finishes with a really smooth caramel taste that makes this an "ice and whiskey" drink to die for.

Is there room for a fifth rider? :) I'd love to tag along if so! Also, if you guys need a place to store motorcycles by me I can help out, or if you need hotel accommodations a friend of mine owns one and could assist. As far as checking out some of my buddies stock, I don't see why it wouldn't be a problem for the stuff on his property. I know the building I referenced that he shares with his pal is a bit more of a pain to see as his friend doesn't want people in and out of the place. I'm actually going this weekend to check that building out though, super stoked on that!

I'll have to see if I can get my hands on that whiskey. I have yet to dabble with the caramel, dark chocolate, etc that's been mentioned. Kinda intrigued by the thought of it honestly!

Bulleit is some good stuff. I even prefer the regular bourbon to the 10 year they have.

Agreed! As explaining to Don, I've been on a kick....I've enjoyed Basil Hayden, Bookers and Woodford. Don recommended Willet Pot, Larceny and Four Roses.

Next up on my tasting list:
-Blantons
-Evan Williams Single Barrel
-Buffalo Trace
-Wild Turkey 101
-Elijah Craig 12 year
-Old Weller

From my understanding Old Weller is made by the same distillery that does Pappy Van Winkle (Buffalo Trace) and has a pretty similar grain to Pappy Van Winkle but heavier on the wheat that most other bourbons.

Hey man, didn't know you are a whiskey fan...this place is across the street from my house. I believe is has the largest selection in the world... maybe you should come down to that Timonium show too ;)

I was supposed to join! Unfortunately, I have two exams on that Saturday. :(  Feel free to gift a bottle, haha.

Also, keep a look out Sunday for a video.

The little Nighthawk that could.  I imagine that sleeping bag, etc. wasn't too heavy but I bet some wind deflection would have made it a little more pleasant.  That said, WOW! What scenery!!

Don, we had to eat somehow....the bugs added protein! Jokes aside, windscreen would be preferred in the future! The cargo was approximately an extra 100-110lbs actually. This made a difference when we got stuck in mud off-road.

Don, we had to eat somehow....the bugs added protein! Jokes aside, windscreen would be preferred in the future! The cargo was approximately an extra 100-110lbs actually. This made a difference when we got stuck in mud off-road.

Easier for you to wheelie a cruiser, too!!  ;D

Oh yeah, without a doubt! She pulled the wheel right up around 88mph which was the top of first gear.

Were you wearing a skintight leopard shirt, bubble-shielded open face helmet and Home Depot dearskin work gloves?   ;)

I wear only the finest threads. Well known celebrities who own 58 exotic cars (none that you could even afford) contact me to represent their brand. I hang out with Tom Cruise often as he always asks me to take my CB350 into the danger zone of 2nd gear. Please educate yourself in the future, the gloves were mink....I pity the fool who thinks they can compare mink to deerskin. Now if you would kindly excuse me as I have a photo-shoot to catch. Good day.

My bad.  How could I mistake deerskin for mink??
