Here's a pic comparing the Lester to the Yamaha wheel. Lester on the left.
The spokes on the Lester stop flat at the rim. The lip on the rim is wider, too.
The Yamaha spokes  curve down onto the lip, which is narrower than the Lester.

They're a pretty close match and those not "in the know" might not notice. A front Lester usually goes for $100 and up. The Yamaha wheel can be found in wrecking yards for about $10.
Bolt pattern for discs are the same, but I don't know about disc offset. I've seen pics of people using the Yamaha wheel on the front of a SOHC4, but I have no idea what it takes to make it work as far as axle, bearings, spacers, etc.

Was there definitely an 18" front offered in a Honda fitment, has anyone ever actually seen one? I vaguely remember seeing an old Lester catalogue and it only had an 18" Kawasaki fitment one.

Noob here. I have lurked on this forum for years but never posted. I know it is in bad form to have your 1st post pitching something for sale, but I am just mentioning it because I figured there were people here looking for them that might not see them if they were on ebay.

I see that some of you guys are looking for the hard to find 18" rear Lester wheels for CB550s. I happen to have a set(18" rear/19" front) that are in near perfect shape. They are currently mounted on my CB550 project bike. I have never removed them to check the numbers inside the hub but I am sure they are the correct ones since, a:They are mounted to a CB550 now, and b: they appear to be using all of the stock spacers and such.

Anyway, I was going to post them on ebay but would prefer to sell them to someone who is a member here. I do know what they are worth so they aren't going to be sold for $400 for the set, or some other low ball offer. I have looked them over fairly closely and I couldn't even find a tire iron mark or scratch on them. I believe that with a little cleaning they would look like NOS pieces. So if anyone would like pics or more info let me know on this thread (I am assuming I can't get PMs being so new), or by email (I am set up to take emails from members through the forum).

Thanks guys, this is a great community with a lot of helpful info and people. I hope to add to that.

Too bad that gone are the days when $400 would buy almost two sets in nice shape.

Not bad form to post something for sale.
I view it as bad form to post something for sale with no price.
This isn't ebay, so offers=bids, pick a price and list them.

I agree. To be honest though, these wheels cost about $300 a set 40 years ago so paying around 3 times that now, isn't that bad if you factor in inflation and the fact that 18" rears for the 550 are now made of unobtanium.  ;D

I had to drive 350 miles round trip to get the bike these came on and did it gladly. You should have seen me trying to make sure that these were actually the real deal through email, without making the seller suspicious enough to do a google search and find out what they were worth.

"Ummm, could you send me some close ups of the wheels? They do say Lester on them right? That is an 18" on the rear right? They are mounted using all of the stock parts right? Why am I asking? No special reason. I just ask to many questions some times. When can I come and get the bike? Don't sell it to anyone else. I want it and I will be there."

I agree.

I wasn't really ready to list them. I was surprised by the quick response actually. I have had a couple of PMs and I gave those guys a price. If neither of them wants them I will get them off the bike and clean them up and put them up for sale properly with some good pictures.

To be clear. I don't want and am not taking bids. I told both gentlemen who PMed me the same asking price and will of course deal with offers based on who was first not who was most.

Great thread on vintage mags for these bikes. Im running 100/90-19 front and a 130-18 rear on mine. Here is a pic of them (old tires though) From about 5 years ago.
I am not an expert on rake and trail. What changes when the rear tire is 1.5" taller than stock? Quicken the steering? Dan

Where did you come up with the 1.5" taller tire? If you are comparing a 16 to an 18 I think you will find little to no difference in height.

In answer to why not post the price, from my earlier post:

I gave you a pretty good idea what my asking price is in an earlier post.

To the passive/aggressive Stev-0:

Flame away, we all know what I could get on ebay for a set of 18" & 19" for a 550 in pristine condition. If you aren't interested, that's fine, I am willing to sell them on here for a little less than I may get on an ebay auction, but I work very hard for my money and don't generally sell things for half of their value. YMMV

I'm not interested, I don't like Lesters, that why I sold mine

Rocs and I just wondered why so secretive about the price?   Actually, now I really don't care so disregard.

I just like prices disclosed so people, like yourself, who do use the search function to see what their stuff is worth, can.

Im not looking to start any trouble with my comments but, why avoid a bidding war? It seems you want top dollar and that is the best way to get it.

Ebay prices don't mean a lot here.  Like I said this isn't ebay.
Also lets not forget that 10% of the ebay price has to be paid by the seller to ebay.  So a lower price on a forum might still net the same to the sell.  You have already hinted at these being a flip (fine) and sort of hinted at a $900 price tag.

Also when referencing "ebay" for pricing lets not forget that we don't only need to talk about the highest sale.
Some times when you go phishing you catch a whale, that's true.  But have to ask yourself, how many whales are there?

Is this retail?

I would be willing to bet he could have.

My point was that ebay is not always the highest pricing.
And that some times the selling price of an item on ebay does not show its true value.
