how to identify carb year
« on: January 17, 2015, 02:42:59 AM »
ok here's the deal, i picked up a 4-wheeler an someone has put a honda cb750A motor on it, yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!   anyway, all 4 carbs leak gas bad like the float needle isnt seating or floats messed up, it'll fire up an run but leaks bad.. the #'s stamped on motor come back as being a '77 but everything i have seen shows carbs as being different from whats on here. these have round tops an # stamped on #1 carb says VZC65AAVJZ  or at least from what i can tell thats the #. any experts on here that know more about these motors point me in the right direction as to what kind of carbs i have? dont know how to attach a pic of em but if i figure that out i'll put some on

I'm no expert on the carb years, but I'm sure I can speak for everyone when saying "You should definitely post pictures and show us that Franken-wheeler!".  Sounds like an interesting machine ya got!  I'm sure someone will help you identify the carbs soon, wish I knew more myself.

Yeah, it does NOT look like 750A carbs or '69-'76 750K either.  Those being what I am familiar with.

little update, took carbs apart an cleaned em, put back on an it runs now. pretty fast too lol.. still leaks gas some because i had to reuse old float needles an bowl gaskets. i'll get those replaced with new an it'll be a fun toy. now just to find the right parts.

Glad to hear you got it running!  I did some searching for ya and came up with a few links you could check out.  It seems like they would come from a 700S or 700SC (they are Nighthawks). Here are the links:

Ebay - someone selling the same ones:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CB700SC-CB700-CB-700-NIGHTHAWK-CARBURETOR-OUTSIDE-RIGHT-/290465130896

Nighthawk posting (search the page for "VE65A"):
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/honda_nighthawk/conversations/topics/69237

Some parts place (search the page for "VE65A" again):
http://www.sportslinkup.com/shop/0-Cb700sc-carburetor-3-NEW.html

I hope this helps a bit when it comes time to replace parts.
