It's double nutted on the chain tensioner bolt. Should be ok. I haven't test ridden it yet though. ahaha

Glad you like it. It's funny, my 74 has the gators off and the 78 has the gators on. It should be the other way around period correct, but whatever. Those are NOS gators and are so soft and supple. haha. They needed to get used.

Alright, I'm at a bit of a dilemma. I ran all the fuel line and breather tubes throughout the bike. My possible problem stems from the 76 Super Sport tank with the 19mm petcock to the inlet to the PD carbs. The routing has to be like the pictures below. It curves and runs a bit uphill before it plummets down to the carb fuel inlet.

The 78 tanks have a petcock with a 90 degree outlet port which would feed straight down to the carb fuel inlet port. Since I'm running the 76 tank with a NOS petcock, the petcock has a vertical outlet port, hence the needing to bend the fuel line around.

I have 5.5mm OEM fuel line but I chose to run some clear stuff for now so I can see how the fuel is flowing.

My big question is, WILL I RUN INTO FUEL DELIVERY ISSUES WITH THE LINE RUN A BIT UPHILL?  I'm guessing that when the tank gets low on fuel there won't be enough pressure to make the incline.

There is an aftermarket petcock available on ebay with the 90 degree outlet port and a 19mm threads for the 76 tank bung. I just never line to buy aftermarket stuff, I usually run into problems. AND I JUST BOUGHT the NOS petcock.

Regardless I'm filling the jerry can after work tomorrow and I'm going to try and run the bike like this. I need to make sure everything else is working correctly.

I'm sure some will cite this to be a problem, not me. Not ideal, sure, but, liquids always find they're level. Since the inlet port of the carb is below the petcock, the gas can only continually flow into it by virtue of pressure behind it.

Ever held a length of hose in a "U" filled with water? The higher the volume of water in the hose, the more it will "climb" up.

Thanks Cal, this makes me feel a bit better. I just don't want the carbs to lean out on me due to air pockets or starvation from lack of pressure. Your reasoning makes sense though, I'm going to run it like this unless I notice any kind of running issue.

I just bought the cheaper petcock on ebay, so if I do run into anything I can swap it out. Still it's a bummer. I didn't think It would be an issue. I feel like this is like the whole measure twice, cut once enology.

You will get siphon effect, where as long as the output is lower than start the weight of gas (once primed) will pull through the tube. Plus you have all the weight of the gas inside the tank pushing so no worries. Actually, make sure the needle valves work well, if not gas will come out the overflow tubes at a good rate. Again, don't ask...

What type of gas line is that?

I bought 10 feet of the OEM 5.5mm fuel line and the same in the 3.5mm. Going to switch to that stuff once it arrives. Just have this clear stuff going to the carbs from the tank to also confirm fuel delivery. I guess like minds think alike

You have a vertical petcock nipple to PD carbs? If so I can measure the length of gas line for you. It took me quite a while to get the proper length to have no kinks and the most minimal incline possible.

Well a good friend came over and we installed one of the spare 650 camshafts I had and verified timing in under 2 hrs!!!! I then crossed my fingers and kicked it over. Fired 2nd Kick. I'll get pics of the cam install off sometime soon.

Jared doing the pedal, non-motor BMX thing.  Truly amazing finesse riding -- I've snapped enough BMX frames and bent enough wheels.  Now if you could do some of those moves on a 550!

As I said in the BOTM thread. I really appreciate the nomination. Cheers Don. I went so quickly on this bike because I just wanted a proper runner I could be proud of come Spring. I reallywish I had the same motivation on the 74. That bike is going to be something else when it's done. Not quite the Bionic Mongrel though.

Thanks man, bringing the bmx videos into the thread. You know, I got some moves on the 550, probably shouldn't have any but I do. haha.  Never even seen one of those trails bikes before. That looks so fun!!! They're expensive though. Have you ever ridden one of those?

Me? Oh, hell no!!  I know that with your coordination, balance and control developed in doing BMX tricks, you could develop fast as a trials rider, since that style of riding requires many of the same skills. 

The bike only weighs 160-165 lbs. (72.5-75 kg)
