Petcock options
« on: January 21, 2015, 06:54:29 AM »
I'm building another "Sweep The Floor" bike and I have parts from multiple years, multiple bikes.
I'm not sure what year the tank is but I believe it's a '75 or '76, which means it most likely has that one-year-only petcock.  ::)

Maybe someone can tell by the original paint what year it is?

The carbs I have use a dual fuel inlet. The petcock that came with that tank has a single out. I could use a "T"....done it before....but I was wondering if there was a dual outlet petcock that would fit the tank?
I'll need a new in-tank filter anyway, and the petcock needs cleaning, to say the least.

And FWIW, the nut on the petcock takes a 22mm wrench. The threads on the bung on the tank have a 19.5mm O.D. The I'D. of the nut on the petcock that threads it on to the tank is ~18.5 mm (kinda hard to get an accurate measurement on that one).

Hi Scott,

I purchased a dual petcock off eBay. I believe this was the one.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-69-74-CB750-71-73-CB500-74-CB550-PETCOCK-NEW-/361185551022?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item54185622ae&vxp=mtr

Depending on the carbs you have will decide which petcock you will need (I believe. I am an amateur).

I have a spare tank hanging in my shop. I am not sure if it has a petcock or not because its mainly a display piece, The tank is in bad bad shape. If the petcock is dual and functional, Ill send it to you for free in hopes you can use it.

Also, I am almost positive that is a 1976 Candy Garnet Brown tank. I am 99% sure. the 1% lies within some pretty crazy fades I have come across. I have seen Candy Jade Green tanks faded so bad with sunlight and gas that they appear to be Garnet Browns :o

That's the petcock for the earlier style tanks. If you notice, mine has the thread on style petcock.  Oh, we're it so simple that I could use that style!

Now you're making me wonder!  I've got a K3 (I think) tank that I traded for and am putting it on my K5.. Now I have to go look and see what kind of outlet it has and what kind of inlet my carbs have...

edit: 2 out of the petcock and 2 inlets to the carbs. Yay!

Any other ideas? Or a way to identify the thread on the petcock so I can cross shop?

A semi decent machinist could fit a second outlet to this existing fuel tap of yours? The casting seems designed for that 2nd outlet.
