Motorcycle Insurance in Ontario, Canada
« on: January 21, 2015, 08:09:14 AM »
Hi All:
Just wondering if there are other Canadian 750A owners in Ontario. If yes, Do you mind letting me know where you are insuring your bike? I'm just in the process of looking into it now. I have been insuring my 2003 Suzuki 1500LC but this year they want over $1,100.00 to insure a bike that I don't even drive 2,000 kms a year. So I'm getting out my 1977 750A and going to ride it instead this year. Looking forward to your responses
Thanks Harry ;)

Try State Farm although they just got bought out by desjardins so not sure what will happen there also check out dalton timmis they have normal policies and vintage policies with limitations but at a fraction of the cost
In Ontario anything older than 25 years is vintage and not all companies will play ball. also maybe try the insurance forum on GTA motorcycle

Thanks for your response: So I tried everyone you suggested... :-\ Still not getting any better pricing for the Suzuki 1500LC. I did get a pretty resonable quote for the Hondamatic. Now all I have to do is get it appraised ;). Dalton Timmis doesn't want to give me the insurance with out the appraisal. Looks like that's the way to go... ;D

I have my old and new bikes insured with Aviva through Dalton Timmis in Burlington.
Decent pricing but I am an...er..."mature"  rider with multiple vehicles and home insurance with them.

I too am a mature rider with a 8+ year second time around riding career and a clean abstract, plus a number of riding schools accredited courses. I found Dalton became too expensive in the past few years even with the multi discounts of car and home. The "vintage" insurance does require an appriasal which can be expensive too.

I moved my car and home from Dalton/Aviva last year to CAA and saved $357 in total on those two and about $250 on the bikes when I moved to Riders Plus a few years back.

I have been with Riders Plus in Ontario and they have had the best prices for me, yet with no "vintage" option though. They do offer an additional discount for multi year riding and any accredited training courses you have taken.

Perhaps it's due to the long time I have been with Timmis but I went online to get a quote from Riders Plus and it was considerably more $$$

It's all a mystery how they determine the rates it seems.

I was with Aviva for about 10 years with my home and car and about 5 years ago the broker I used couldn't offer bike insurance through Aviva just the home and car. I switched to Dalton Timmis and kept the home and car in place and added the bikes.
Each year the bikes and home policies crept up with my car coming down as I retired and didn't need the business insurance on the car any longer just regular insurance, so it came down a few hundred.

Riders Plus I spoke to directly and they were cheaper on the bikes alone with no car or home policies required when I switched a few years back after shopping around. I don't think they write those policies anyway. Last year I had CAA quote on the car and home as the home again kept moving up with Aviva and CAA was $350+ cheaper, so I switched.

I hear what your saying, yet I was a long time Aviva customer with 0 claims and a clean abstract, so who knows how they arrive at their policy premiums.

Jevco was who I used for years as they will insure older than 1975 motorcycles without an assessment or photo.  They got bought by Intact Insurance and I pay $375 for the year for a 1975 CB750 and $1200 for a year for my 2002 XV1600 Roadstar.
