Can a guru confirm that the valve springs inner/outer the tighter ends are closer to the valve face, not the camshaft end ??
bike is 750/4

I'm not a guru, but according to my CB750F2 manual the narrow pitch end faces the cylinder head.

ahh yes much better, now i know what you mean. and yes that is correct, same way on cars that use a spring similar to that.

closed coil to the non moving side (cyl head) it compresses and becomes 'solid' so would increase he weight of retainer and probably cause valve/piston damage at higher rpm due to increased inertia ( valve float happens sooner)
