About stock bars on a 75 550.
« on: January 22, 2015, 06:43:15 AM »
Im not using the stock bars as they are bent beyond trying to repair them. I noticed that on both ends there are slugs welded in. Also a metal throttle tube? Is this all factory? I know the internal wiring was. My 77 which had stock bars (i think) didnt have the slugs and had a plastic tube.

Metal throttle tube? Talk about a rusty situation waiting to happen. Honda tubes are plastic for the 550's .

Here are some better pics. Surprisingly no rust. The slugs were very rusty.

Definitely a unique throttle tube, pretty cool. I can tell you that on my 76 bars there were no slugs welded in the ends. Seems somebody felt the need to do yours that way for some odd reason.

It seemed like a factory job tho because the chrome was over all the ugly weld and grinding. Anyway, from wikipedia: "Each handlebar end may contain bar-end weights to damp vibration by isolating the bar's resonant frequency from that of the engine."

So maybe thats what the thought was?
