What is the best CR750 gas tank out there?
« on: December 29, 2014, 03:05:37 PM »
I am collecting CR750 parts for a project. I see that there is a lot of vendors out there, but need yours advice of what's the best repro parts for:

- Fairing, seat and front fender
- Gas tank and petcock
- Oil tank.

Any used, new or repro parts is wanted.

Your best bet for an aluminium fuel tank and oil tank is Asa Moyces in Northern Ireland. He makes the tanks that most people are offering for sale on various web sites. Going direct could be cheaper. His addess is:

Bartel Engineering.  295  Killaughey Road,  Donaghadee,  County Down, Northern Ireland, BT21 OLY.

Tel 02891 820786.

Fairing and seat: I'd try Airtech, that where I got mine from. You will also need a screen which is available from Gustafsson Plastics. Get one of their special drills for plastics while your at it.

Front fender: There was an ebay listing for a fibreglass one (blade only) recently from a guy in Sweden where I got mine from. Keep checking as it will probably be relisted. The snag is making your own bracket. It takes ages to get right due to the tight clearances, but worth the effort.  M3 Racing may be able to help also. Daniel Mercier also offers them in aluminium, but you could be an old man by the time you get it.

Petcock: Hmm, replica ones are as common as rocking horse droppings. A Pingel guzzler valve with twin outlets may be a good option.

Hope that helps and good luck with your build.

Eric

Aluminum will not be cheap.  Aside from Mead Speed/Bartel,

I'd like to see anyone who can hand fabricate an aluminum tank with high quality tig welding, Monza filler cap and a Pingle or similar quality petcock AND charge less than a $1K.  I think it is one of those things where you have to fork out the bread for a quality item.  I suppose you could train some starving guys in China to do it cheaper but they'd burn through so much aluminum stock learning how to property TIG that you'd still be over $1K.

I totally agree,  but it's 1095 PLUS the monza cap ($165).   Still though, I held them in my hands at the Mosport race this year and they sure are nice.  Too much for my blood, but damn nice.

I ended up with a gas and oiltank from James Hurrington. That is a tank from meadspeed. looks to be a good (and expencive) choice.

Thanks for all advice.
