Bleeder Leak & Head Noise
« on: January 27, 2015, 09:34:17 AM »
Howdy,

got the bike running (like #$%*) but at least it runs, needs tuning, i go to check everything (brakes / clutch / lights) and find that the front brake is sponge. I found the source of the leak its next to the bleeder, any ideas on how to address this?

shhhh don't tell me about the paint on the caliper, I'm already crying about it.
There is also an issue of a TON of noise coming from the motor, I've yet to pull it apart and check it out, but its not run in around 10-15 years? would this be normal? Lots of blue/white smoke from the exhaust smells like gas, maybe its too rich...

motor noise:  set valve lash, adjust cam chain, set timing and advance, vacuum sync carbs.  just like you said...do a tuneup, and then ride it to try and get the rings to seal again.  if it doesnt stop smoking, you know you've got work to do.
bleeder leak:  a thin layer of teflon tape on the bleeder valve threads will bandage it for now.

i was thinking about that teflon tape, and if it can contaminate the brake fluid at all? does it look like the leak is at the bleeder?  or in the bolt thats below it? I'll try to email jason m, and ask him for advise, he pulled the old bleeder out of it.....

Doesnt look cracked there, but only you can look closer.
You'll have to find a way to seal it.  Like i said, its only a bandage for now.
IIRC, Speed bleeders come with a sealant already on the threads.

I was looking into a speed bleeder, that might actually be a good thing to get, its a pain to find someone to help me bleed this at times. alright ill throw some tape on it when i get home.

there are made som mods on that bleeder nippel..(ve call it udluftnings nipler in denmark)
...problem can be the seat in the bottom..not linet up to the nippel  dovn end

i have made somthing like it before..and have grindet a speciel drill/matchet perfekt to fit teight to the nippel..in the bottom..fit

this work must be done perfekt to be 100% teight

sealing of the auter  threds is a other problem..i have sealed the treads vith lockteit...it have to be breakfluid resistent..to hold long time..can also be your problem
