Carb butterflies nicked up
« on: January 27, 2015, 10:49:33 AM »
I have an old 350 twin I'm working on.  In the process of taking the carbs apart to clean them, I had to removed the butterflies to get that shaft out of there and cleaned up.  To make a long story short, those butterflies were real soft and didn't come out easily.  In the process, I nicked up the bottom of one of them and had to dress it up a bit.

The bike idles high and I can't get it any lower.  Looking at the bottom of the butterfly, it looks like there's a gap now that I assume to be the problem.  I thought I might have them upside down but either way, the idle is near 2000 RPM.  Anyone have any thoughts...

Kinda looks like it's not closing all the way?
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Exactly, I looked closely the other day and I had them in backwards.  The edges are angled slightly and I saw it after I looked real close.  I have to pull them again, it still idles a little high but I haven't adjusted the cables either yet.,..

Edit:  That little passage you see in the photo is now covered...
