oil tank swap
« on: October 09, 2006, 12:12:16 PM »
Hello,
Again trying to modify bike inorder to reach a nice Cafe Racer Look..Honda 1975 cb750

Is there smaller OIL TANKS from other HONDAS (perhaps smaller cc bike)..that have the same fittings as a CB750 (2 lines with crankcase fitting nipple) that can me swaped in place of oem tank. Trying to find a smaller one..so I can position it differently on bike..inorder to hide it.

Also what size threads are on OEM tank?

Thanks
Mike

Most Hondas were Dry sump with no oil tank at all so probably not

Bryan

Don't you mean:

Most Hondas are Wet sump with no oil tank

Correct if I am wrong but the dry sump system needs the oil tank.

I see you are an x-Honda mechanic so I assume this was a brain fart or I am just cluless!!! ???

Meadspeed do a lovely alloy CR750 tank that has all the right fittings, but you need to move your electrics/battery and it is expensive.
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

I had a similar idea and tried to use a CB750 oil tank from an F2 bike on my K2 but they wont fit :-( If you want to try I have a spare F2 oil tank in good condition :-)

cheers
