« on: January 28, 2015, 03:46:19 AM »
Which were the original CB750 K3 colour schemes? Orange was certainly one. Any others?

I have decided to repaint my bike  :) !!

The CB750K3 Four was sold in 1973 and was available in one of three colors: Flake Sunrise Orange, Candy Bucchus Olive, or Maxim Brown Metallic. The gas tank stripes were white, gold and black. The side covers were smaller than the K0 model and there were no slots on the leading edge. The upper forks were chrome. The headlight shell was black. The taillight and side reflectors were larger than the K1 model. There was a two-throttle cable system (pull open and pull closed). The exhaust system was a 4-into-4. The engine was a 736cc SOHC 2-valve dry sump inline 4 cylinder linked to a 5-speed transmission and chain drive.

Thanks! Looks like my colour was the better of the 3: orange!  :) Do you think that it detracts value from the bike if I chose to restore it in a colour of a different year? Ruby red, for example?

I think it would detract from the value going a different color if you were doing a period correct resto.

I agree...sunflake orange was a great color for sure. Really pops in the sun and is a great retro 70's look.

Thanks to all,

You convinced me. I'll stay with Sunflake Orange. It's not a bad colour, you're right. Besides my preference for red derives from the Ducati/MV Agusta/Ferrari brands which are my Italian heritage and, in this case, is out of place. It was retarded to even think about it in the first place: restoring a bike "period correct" and knowingly messing up the colour scheme? Douh... what was I thinking.

BTW, I might have found the Z1 in Denver: http://denver.freeclassifieds.com/classified_ads/Vehicles_For_Sale/Motorcycles/oGl1iH9NjlJu0O-GwJseTw==
checking on shipping/tax/import/road-test/registration costs in Japan... might end up having to buy a Z1 in Japan. I found a Jota in the UK for 20,000€: way too much! I had to pass on that one...

Good choice. ;) Sunrise flake orange was a popular 750 K model color and seen on the K2, K3, K4 and K6 bikes.

What country used the flake orange on a K6 Dream ?  One you did not mention was they also used it on the 1975 F0 750 here.

Several of the Europe markets had K6 sunrise flake orange, sapphire blue and candy antares red color availability. (France, Germany, European Direct, etc.) A few of my file photos below, notice the low factory euro bars and tail lights.

Eric, you’re 100% correct. I’m guilty of not paying attention to the F models, probably because I’ve never ridden, owned or wanted one.

Honda did get a lot of mileage out of that color  ;)  . Thanks for posting that Euro stuff, I need to learn more about the other markets.

but after finding this bike with very nice unfaded olive I changed my mind.

Re: listing.

I replied already a couple of days ago confirming that it is a scam but for some reason my reply did not get posted: the seller never replied and the shipping company confirmed that they do not offer payment services and that they are being targeted by scammers and are now legally pursuing also that listing. This is how the scam works (example from last September):

This shipping company received a call from a guy in York, England asking them to arrange the shipping of a Lancia Delta Integrale 16V EvoII to a buyer in Belgium.

Apparently the seller had sent pictures of car, VIN number & title with the name of the owner visible to the buyer who checked the match at the motor vehicles registry in Swansea.

The buyer sent a friend from London to York to check the car and this friend of the buyer met the fake seller at the York station where they discussed matters... until... the fake seller received an emergency phone call and invited the guy from London to go see the car by himself, as it was exhibited at a nearby car dealership, while the fake owner attended to his emergency.

The car dealer obviously had no idea that the visitor had met a fake owner and eagerly showed the car, the title, the matching chassis number... even let the buyer take pictures of the title and car!

Seller and buyer finally agreed on a PayPal payment for the car and a separate payment for the shipping as the car did not have an MOT. The fake owner had even setup a PayPal account in the same name as the real owner...

The shipping company - which really exists - was contacted again by the buyer but since the fake owner had already called them asking to arrange for that very shipping, they were not surprised to receive a verification call from the buyer...

Everything matched!

In the mean time the fake seller had created to bogus email account in the name of the shipping company and started to discuss shipping services payment by email with the buyer. To make a long story short what saved the buyer was that the scammer had 2 shortfalls:

1) the PayPal account had not yet been verified by PayPal, and
2) in the fake emails (from shipping company) the buyer had been asked to pay to an account in the Isle of Wight with a different name from the shipping company's name.

If the buyer had not contacted again by phone the shipping company the scam would have worked because everything matched. The buyer was smart to verify every single detail...
