Are you sure he's not just relocating ?
There was a nice little machine shop here in this area that's been open and serving the public for 43 yrs.(that's 42 years longer than I knew about it...I just moved here)until last Nov. I walked in and they told me "You're sh*% out of luck"...
I've been looking around for one like it since and nothing yet..  :-\

Looking at the link I provided, there's no indication of anything other than they just closed.

Edward (thanks for alerting me to this, I was just getting ready to send them a box.) Your link doesn't work for me.

I'm going to post another subject about alternative chrome shops. Seems a good one in CA, but I'm not shipping that far away. There's one in Rock Island IL. I'd really like something that's close like that, as I could drive there and pick it up if they procrastinated. Here:
http://www.thechromeshop.com/

There's a couple in Indy, but bad reputations.

I've got an excellent guy here in WI. He travels to cycle and car shows to pick up parts and will then send back. Saves on shipping for sure. He has done 5 bikes for me and the work is the best.

Too bad they went out business.  According to many, Brown's was the best.

I use Verne's in Gardena Ca.
Nice guys - total gearheads, although their interest runs a bit more to old school hotrod cars than bikes, but Bob Barnes also has a few old bike. (like REALLY old...pre ww1).

Wow, that's sad! The EPA strikes at us all again...the local platers here in CO have ALL closed, due to outrageous EPA rules being dumped on them. Even though these are ex-post facto laws, they could not afford to fight it in court, as they would have to pay BOTH sides' costs: their own, plus the taxes that support EPA...
 >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(

I've just used one in PA that took a while, but the chrome is pure show quality. They are called Advanced Custom Chrome, website is the same all strung together (add .com). Nice people to work with, quoted and delivered USED HEADER PIPES at the same price. They took 50% down, 50% when ready to ship. They even repaired several bad dents, holes, and scratches, fine work!

That swingarm you sent me to rebuild was absolutely gorgeous, Ron: I know Browns' did it for you.   :)

YEah, it was/is beautiful, thanks.

Now I'm really jammed up with who to go with next. I was all set to finish up with Brown's, who to trust next?

Luckily its not life or death, so I'll make a choice and go for it.   :D

I asked my oldest friend in Paducah and he said he'd heard nothing. Last I saw of the place MANY years ago their shop was built on the family compound. That'd make it difficult to up and sell. There's a story somewhere.

Yeah, it seems like such a long running and well respected business would  give more of a heads up of their future plans unless something unexpected or unfortunate happened.  Really hope somebody won the lottery and they just said "Halelujah!  We don't need to be messing with this damn chrome anymore!"

The chrome shop (link above) did some parts for me last year. The chrome was great and they stripped some aluminum parts and that went well too. My sandcast has a few chromed parts. I wanted to do a test on similar parts before I took the plunge on the sandy parts.

I fear a health issue. Ronnie and I compared notes one time. He was worse off than me.

But I hope for the lottery.

What I like about them is their use of pictures. I attached 4 to their quote sheet and emailed it in to them. Terry got back to me within a few hours with quotes. A little pricey, but like Brown's very impressive. And I get the feeling when they actually see the parts and don't have to cover their ass, they may back down a tad. HE said the final quote will be determined when they actually see them, so...
