Look what the cat dragged in!
« on: January 29, 2015, 07:03:21 AM »
Found this little cream puff yesterday, got at a fair price too, free! This is the first Honda 4 I've been around so will probably be asking a few questions. This's is what she looks like today. And this is what me and my 13yr old son are shooting for.

Sounds like a great project. Is it in running condition? Since it's all there, it would be a good idea to get it running smoothly and checking all of the systems, while you muster all of your parts for a rebuild.

Good news tonight! I thought the engine was stuck, so I removed the rocker cover with intentions to remove the cylinder head. I found the top side of the head to be really clean and all the valves could be moved easily enough. So I stopped there and thought maybe I cound get a strap wench on the flywheel to help break things loose. To my surprise the flywheel and stator were somewhat rusted together! She spins free now!
So on to the carbs. Found the usual old tarnished gas in 3 and water corrosion in the 4th. Most of the parts are soaking in Chemtool right now. I guess I need to download the service manual now as I'm not sure how to separate the carb bodies.

Consider getting new rubber pucks, rocker cover seals, tappet cover orings, and a tube of hondabond to seal the pucks

Made some more progress today, got the rocker cover back on, got 2 of the carbs soaking in chemtool. Going to need all the prongs for carbs but the hard parts are cleaning up nicely.Gas tank is good and clean, we really lucked out on how good the inside is. All the cables except for speedo are frozen have, aero kroil is soaking in them now, most likely have to buy new. We got granddaughters 1st birthday, and Super Bowl tomorrow so won't get much done maybe get the last 2 carbs in the chemtool.
