Cb400F engine in a CB350F clearance issue
« on: January 09, 2015, 11:43:19 AM »
Hi All,

I recently put a 75' cb400f engine in my 74' cb350f.  The swap went swimmingly and was easy as could be.  I am also using 400f shift lever, brake pedal, kick lever and pegs.  The issue i am having is with the right side foot peg.  There is a fitment issue with the brake pedal and the peg.  I shimmed out the peg so it isn't touching the brake pedal, but there still isn't enough clearance for the peg to be put up in order to use the kicker.

I know a couple of people have done this switch in the past,  but wasn't able to find any solutions to the brake pedal problem in the archive.  I would love to know how others have solved it.  I would not like to cut/alter the frame if it can be helped, but everything else is fair game.  Here are some pictures of the issue area:

It's been a while since I monkeyed with this issue, but I believe you can use a 350f brake pedal and cut it down to the length you want. Weld on the footpad, and you can bolt it up and go. Another option is to cut and re-weld the brake arm pivot point further up the frame to the same position it is on the 400f frame... although I don't know if that will actually fix the clearance issue.

Those rear sets would fix the issue, but they aren't ideal rear sets.  They place the driver's pegs where the passenger foot pegs would have been. That's too far back for good control of the bike. You want the pegs further forward where you can more easily shift your weight onto them. There are other rear set manufacturers out there. You might want to check 4into1.com among others.

On my 400 the rearbrake return spring sits inside the frame, with one lug around the frame tube and the other one hooks around the arm that pulls the brake rod.

Thanks! I love the position of the rearsets you feel really locked in, I'm pretty tall too.
