Topic: 550 / 750 fork tubes

Are 550/750 fork tubes interchangable.  I know the 750's are longer but by how much?  Need new fork tubes for my 550, my lowers are fine.

A lot depends on the years. This is the set up I am using 750 tubes in 550 lowers. One thing is that they must be same diameter.

The 750's tube were about 1 1/2 or so longer than the 550's, not much but enough to make a difference.
Hang on, someone will probably have more technical info this, I just learned by trial and hopefully no error.

I had to switch out the forks on my 550, and ended up buying '79 750 forks. They slide right into the triples with no fuss.  They are longer, but you can slid e them up to make up the difference.  I know you are inquiring about just the tubes, but I bring this up b/c I got complete fork in good shape from E-bay,  for $28 after shipping.  It would be tough to beat that with a stick.  It would be worth just getting new/used forks and save the hassle.

You would need to use all the 750 internals as the springs/dampers are different
