I often wonder what Buddy Holly would have musically done if he had lived. Dion was also supposed to be on that plane but the $35 was his parents rent for a Month.

John Lennon told Jerry “J.I.” Allison, drummer for the Crickets and Holly’s best friend, “There would not even have been a Beatles had it not been for the Crickets.”

"Listen to any new release," says Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, whose first killer riff was on the 1964 cover of Not Fade Away. "Buddy will be in it somewhere. His stuff just works."

Bob Dylan:
"When I was 16 or 17, I went to see Buddy Holly play and I was three feet away from him… and he LOOKED at me… Buddy Holly was a poet – way ahead of his time.”

The father of Rock and Roll.  He was the blueprint for all those that followed.  Two guitars, bass, and drums.  Buddy Holly and the Crickets wrote and arranged their own songs and played their own instruments.  That just did not happen until they came on the scene.

I had no idea so many artists were inspired by him.   Guys in Europe like Hank Marvin.

Ahh the anniversary makes sense now. I was watching the classic movie channel this weekend and they played The Buddy Holly Story starring Gary Busey and LaBamba starring Lou Diamond phillips. Both good movies.
