Subwoofers have ruined music
« on: February 02, 2015, 07:32:56 PM »
I'm sure this is just a matter of me being
1)  a homeowner
2)  older

But in my mind I think subwoofers have ruined music.  I don't mean by making it sound terrible when you're listening to it - I mean by ruining everyone else's environment by forcing them to listen to only your subwoofer.

There's really no way to block them out, the frequency is low enough to effectively penetrate any structure and in all honesty the person playing the music/game/tv probably doesn't even realize just how obnoxious his/her subwoofer sounds or how far the sound is traveling.  I think that last part is important, because they produce such a low frequency sound, you really do have to crank them up in order to hear their contribution.

I'll cease my ranting now.

I hear ya man (even over all those loud stereos)! I actually mounted a couple 12" subs w/voice coils (as full range speakers) hanging from the inside of the topper on my old Toyota pickup, driven by a 1000w Sony amp, just to "talk back" to any of those rap blasters at a stop light with some hard drivin' blues or rock-n-roll...  8)

I used to live on a (normally) quiet residential street that just happened to be on the shortest route between a predominantly ethnic neighborhood and one of the main roads through town. I came to dread Friday and Saturday nights for the constant parade of booming, rattling hoopties rolling past. These cats were fully aware of how loud and far their sound could be heard, and considered it a feature, not a bug. Fortunately I've moved to an area where there are far fewer folks who think installing five grand worth of wheels and stereo on a $600.00 car is a good idea.
Where you come from is gone.
Where you thought you were going to, weren't never there.
And where you are ain't no good, unless you can get away from it.

I was really hoping that the whole 'bass' trend would die out - but this one just keeps going on and on.  It's actually very similar to the dang tuned exhaust - I mean coffee can muffler mod'ers.  Annoying trends that exist simply to annoy people.

The other side of the coin is that, by the time they are older and smarter {if that ever happens  :o}, they'll all be deaf, so they'll never have to put up with their own creation....kind of sad really.... :o

You forgot to add they will try to get some sort of "entitlement" out of it.

I keep a boat horn,( the small spray can looking ones), in my truck.
I have successfully discharged it in the open windows of idiots with those stupid loud stereos.
Yes, they get pissed. But I just tell them, if it's to loud your to old.

Definitely the case in my old neighborhood. But if someone invented a "ray gun" that would allow me to stealthily fry their amps from a distance, I'd be all over it.
