replacement shocks for CB550
« on: May 25, 2005, 08:43:42 AM »
What are a good replacement shock for a CB550.  I was looking at either Redwings or MDI's from LoudFastUgly.com.  Don't want to go over $100.

I weigh around 200 and its solo riding mostly.

Any recommendations would be great.

Thanks
Chris

There are other threads on 550 shocks on here, run a search.

I love my Hagons but they cost £85 so may be out of your league (unless they're a lot cheaper in the US)

All I would say is that good shocks are as important as good brakes and tyres.  Try not to skimp.

I think the 750's are about 1.5" longer than the 550.  Let me know where you got them though.

I actually just contacted Hagon and am waiting a reply.  Probably better to get some good shocks instead of skimping.  Your right about tires too.  best you can afford.  for 70 more bucks I can get the Hagons.

So you guys are saying that my shocks are crap! I bought mine from oldbikebarn and yes they did cost a $100+ shipping. They work, but not as good as I was expecting. When I drive on concrete freeways at around 70mph, I get speed bumps. I've rebuilt my front forks too! So I was expecting a smooth ride, yeah right! I thought they were too cheap, I'm also looking to get something better, but I'm not looking to spend $300+. Any good ideas? Or am I dreaming about a smooth ride?

I just put new MDI's on my 550. They are a damn sight better than my old, original shocks. They feel pretty stiff, as it says on the loudfastugly website, but then I only weight 155, so maybe 200 lbs. will feel different.

I wanted something better, like Progressives, but I've been pouring money into this bike and just wanted something that was safer than the crappy old ones (which were on the top notch and still bouncing like a cheerleader).

That’s what I’m saying I guess you paid more than 100 for the MDI’s,?
No, these MDI's I bought new on eBay for $57. They are adjustable, but I'm on the lowest notch, so they won't get any softer.
