Mystery Coil

Here's some pics of a coil picked up at a garage sale. No markings on it to indicate a manufacturer. I've never seen another like it, looks kinda cool, oil filled greeny color. Any ideas what it may be off, OEM or aftermarket?

use transformer oil vhen thange.. ;D..you can get it at all elektro reb firms.(use it on oil cooled transformers)...but cool find..most  vintage car coils have oil inside

Little know fact , most automotive C.O.P. ( coil on plug ) setups have oil inside the coil. I believe its there for cooling, and i have heard of coils being burned up by taking a coil that had been sitting at an odd angle and installing and running it too quickly. Overheats and destroys the windings. Never done it myself so take that with a grain of salt.

if you lets the ignision on. (stopped engine).and the platin/knikser is closed...it vill pover the coil up..and make it overheat..it often happents at agrikultur machinery vith gas engines..tractors ect..over night the coil vil get ekstrem hot..and boil the oil aut..think they later build a termo inside..

i have seen cracket coils on cbx 1000..they can get hot ..

I wonder what the failure was with the VW 1.8 t coils. From what i'd heard the coils were re designed or engineered many times but the problem was never really fixed. I replaced some before 60k miles, between that and the oil sump getting clogged thats how most folks killed those motors. I work with natural gas engines that use heat range 3 plugs, tri fire electrode. Its the most sensitive system ive ever seen, gas fluctuates in quality much more than gasoline. I need to get out of the shop more  :P i bore my girlfriend to tears with this kind of talk. Kudos on your CBX i've seen pictures here, lovely machine, you have my envy.
