Newb Intro
« on: October 10, 2006, 09:30:50 AM »
Hi everyone I'm Tim a 23 yr old student in Midland, MI I just purchased a 73' CB750 that I scored.  I have ridden for two years now my 1st bike was a 72' Suzuki T250 and this spring I found a 85' Magna V700 that has treated my very well.  But I've wanted a CB750 from the start.

Its slightly modified with a hog rear wheel, bronze swingarm bushings, re jetted carbs, a 4 into 1, a nice recovered seat, a classic 70's paintjob and a few other goodies.  It was actually the previous owners 1st bike so he kept it for way too long just sitting.  He was obviously very into this bike back in the day, it hasnt been ridden since 1990.  I picked it up for $400 and I think I did pretty well.  Its already in pieces with the carbs being cleaned up today.

This place looks like a great resource for me and I've already been reading hondamans valuable posts and gettin geeked to get this thing running.

here are a few pics of the bike when we went to look at it.  It also came with a spare tank and a few other parts.

Look like you have a good start there. Cleaner than most running bikes. You are in the right place for knowledge and craziness.  ;)

I dont care what anyone says, I am a nice guy  ;D

YES!  Finally another quad guy!  The 750 looks good, but sorry- I'm more interrested in the 450R.  I used to race on alllllll terrains and tracks.  My most beloved racer was an '87 framed 250R that I built myself.  The last quad I had was an '04 Gas Gas 300HP- It was a piece of #$%*- I sold it to get back into street bikes because a car wreck left me not so competitive.  I am considering getting me another 250R project, but just don't know.  I would love to get my hands on a new 450R, but too pricey for me right now.

well I was so exited I made a few newb mistakes on this purchase.  The engine is siezed currently.. We havent done anything yet to it so I will be looking into the correct process to fix that.  From what the p/o has told me it was last ridden the day before his son was born.  After a year or so he noticed the inside of the tank was rusty so he never ran it again, and he just stored it.

sorry to dissapoint you, that was taken at the p/o's house.  and everyone will be way more interested in what he had parked next to the quad.  Underneath a car cover was this beauty.  All I can say is I felt honored to be able to sit and even start this car up.

UK story.

I sold my prstine CB550K to John Elms in Surrey.

When I delivered it, he had an eggshell blue E-Type Jag in one of those de-humidified cucoons in his garage...    8)

that paint is #$%*in' no way am i changing it .  no way! I am just hoping the tank isnt too rusty on the inside.  but I do have a spare just in case.  i really dont want to change anything on it, its just period perfect.  The p/o was really into racing and you can tell this bike was his baby.

My actual goal is to get it back upto good shape and bring it back by his place so he can take it for a spin... of course I want a ride in the cuda' too  ;D

If it is rusty inside, get with me- the Witch DR. and I have a kick ass fix for you that requires no re lining.  ;D We have used it in many bikes.

the plymouth cuda's are a very hot commodity.  Think wealthy idiots and barrett jackson auctions.  They have gone from being a killer muscle car to an unobtainable relic because they are so hard to come by.

Lets put it this way, they were offered 60k for it and turned it down without a second thought.

Its a #$%*in' quad either way though!

Okay funny stuff, my brother was the one who told me the motor was seized.  I hadnt had a chance to look it over yet.  I pulled the plugs (looked quite good actually) and threw some oil in just because and before headin out the door for some penetrating oil I gave the kick start a push.  No problems at all its not seized up.  So I am back to carb cleanin and parts shoppin.

Is there a large base of brits here then?  I am originally from reading and lived in staffordshire till age 11 when I moved to the states.

I live in Reading now (well Wokingham actually but it's close: google-earth it)

There are about 50 UK residents here and more expats (like you I guess) spread around the globe.
