What would you do? (Title question)
« on: February 09, 2015, 11:31:46 AM »

The title that the PO had printed for the bike...I don't know if it was a recent mistake, or further back down the line, but it is missing a digit. It is obvious to me that at some point, someone read 256 instead of 2526 and so it was printed incorrectly.

If you were in that situation, what might be your plan? Id like for it to be correct..

You would have to get in contact with your local DMV and ask if it can be fixed and what would have to be done to fix it. It may be easy and it may be a real problem...

Im up in Canada and had a similar problem on a dirt bike where they messed up and put the model year in as 89 instead of 99.   when i enquired about changing it they gave me this whole BS story and explained the procedure. In the end it was gonna cost a few hundred dollars for an inspection (some official to read and verify the VIN) then multiple trips to the DMV and forms and all kinds of BS for there mistake, in the end i just left it as its just a offroad dirt bike.

It depends on where you live. Each state has different rules.  Check with your DMV or one of the private licensing companies.  If the information you get from your first stop doesn't sound like something you like, check another source. You might find that there are differing opinions. I have found that even in different DMV offices, there are sometimes differing opinions due to the experience level of the individual that you are speaking to. Take the opinion that suits your position and run with it.
