The bike ran before changing the bars, right? The Run/Stop switch on the handlebar has a black wire, and a black wire with a white stripe. This black wire needs to be connected to a black wire from the main harness, and the black/white wire needs to be connected to the black/white wire from the main harness.

I connected the blk/wht, and all of the black wires. Problem was there are 2 black couplers (is that the right word?) As well as 2 dark green ones. I can't tell which ones go where without  the voltmeter. And truthfully, I don't know how I'd be able to check with one. I talked a few minutes  ago to the shop and he said he'd love to show me what i did wrong and how they fixed it for the learning experience.

Hey, nice!  If you can cultivate a relationship with a shop that is willing to both work on a bike that old, and help you to improve your skills, then latch on and don't let go!  That's worth it's weight in gold.
