A new 1973 Honda CB500 Four Owner
« on: February 14, 2015, 12:02:32 AM »
Hi all,

Thought I would start by saying hi!  I am from the UK and have just bought a 1973 Honda Cb500 Four (now named Suzie) in need of a lot of work.  She was bought as a non runner for spares or repair and I plan on repairing.  Am I biting off more than I can chew, quite possibly, but let's give it a go anyway!

I want to start by getting her running, the engine turns over well and it feels like there is good compression, although I need to test it.  Gears are smooth with no horrible clunks.

The first bit of advice I need to find out is what the red circled item in the pic attached?  Not my picture but this is one of the parts I am missing and wonder if it is needed to get the bike started?

Anyway, thanks in advance as I am sure a lot of you will be a great help to my project.

Marv

Cheers, Marv. Here's an online link to the parts fiche for your bike.

By the way, that round "thingy" is a winker relay (part number 11 in the electric panel section)  ;)

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Thanks.  I'm glad it's not need to try and get her started which is on today's agenda  :)

She was turning over yesterday but I need to check the timing and valve clearances before going any further.

Hi Marv.

Pop over to www.sohc.co.uk and chat to the UK lot.  There's bound to be someone close to you.

In 1973, Suzie was the name of a zillion two-stroke twins (I hear the "X7" was sought after, but I had a 500/4...)
