Rear wheel reassembly
« on: February 14, 2015, 12:12:51 PM »
I have replaced the bearings in my rear wheel and cannot get the sprocket hub to "snap" into place as Hondamans book suggests. The "d" ring is new and everything is clean and lubed. Any ideas? Page IIIC-12 of Hondamans book.

Rubber is in correct, it only has to go maybe another 1/8 in. or so. I'm 200 but I also 60 years old so I'm not to inclined to jump on something that is not real stable. Thought maybe someone had a different approach.
Just went back and did some more tinkering. I had replaced the original bearings with the all balls kit and they all look like they are in right. When I put the sprocket hub in without the spacer that goes between the hub bearing and the sprocket bearing, they seat together snug. So it looks like the spacer is what is keeping them apart the 1/8 in. Not sure if there is a difference between the original bearing and the allballs width but that is what appears to be my problem. No idea how to fix it.

I have used the allballs in mine with no issues. I would revisit the seating of the bearings sounds like one is not seated correctly.

You do know the right side has to go in first then the Collar Rr Axle and the left bearing goes just far enough to hold the collar in place.

Thats the way I did it and the collar is just loose enough to move in between the wheel bearings. Everything looks right but I will go over it again.
