Oil Gallery Plug/Nut/Cap very tight stuck
« on: February 25, 2015, 11:13:06 PM »
Hi, having issues getting this one loose. I looked through Honda shop manual and it seems like it should just unscrew. The aluminum is soft and don't want to strip the nut head. I'm going to put some heat on it.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Andy if it's a cap try spraying some PB and leave it soak, they do have an O ring and a thread on them, if the PB doesn't work maybe a try a little heat, heat will move most things seized.

If it's a plug PB and then heat.

If you're pulling the engine down you'll be able to punch it out from inside the engine.

Use a six point socket.

Heat and this worked for mine:

messed up the "bolt" a bit, but it's the bottom one so not really visible anyways...

Thanks Gents... I will try your recommendations and post the results. :-)
I plan on putting on a oil pressure gauge in place anyways, so I'm not concerned about "saving" the bolt.

Put a 6 point on it, add some pressure on the wrench and tap on the side of the casting with a hard  plastic hammer. They usually break loose. This method works on a lot of things, including brake bleeders.

It came right off, though I put some PB on it a couple days ago.
I did use the pipe wrench around the outer edge of the plug/cap and with very little effort it broke free.

Thanks all.

Oh, one other note...with what DonR said with a 6 point. I found this alligator socket does wonders too :-)
Thanks again
