Topic: Carburetor jet issue

Ok so I just got the rebuild kit in for my carbs and I come across one that the main jet doesn't want to seat properly. Basically the aluminum has been eat away by ethanol and who knows what else. So I was thinking about making a spacer with a fork on the end (similar to what holds the float needle housing in place) to hold it in place. The easier option is to face off about .010-.030" off the emulsifier or the jet (Im a machinist by the way) but I am scared that Ill either cause the jet to go dry or the throttle needle will have issues. The issue I have with making a spacer with a clip is I would create volume inside the carb and cause it to run dry too quick. I need some opinions on this. My biggest problem is getting worried about the jet falling out or vibrating loose or something. The one I pictured is the worst one. The others will probably be ok.

But this pic right here I want to tap that hole and screw a shop made spacer in there.

Dont those carbs have the leaf that presses the main jet into its seat? (what bike 350f, 400f?)
As long as the oring on the jet is new....it will seal.  the leaf holds the jet in place against the float bowl.

If there is a leaf then I dont have it cause I bought this bike with the carbs pulled off and bowls taken out.

...and in your first picture, it doesnt look like that jet has a fresh o-ring around its waist

Sorry...its a 1976 CB550K. And there is a fresh rebuild kit with new orings. And it also seems these clips are expensive and Ill be making some. If somebody wants to help me by getting me detailed measurements, Ill send them a set made from 17-4 stainless for the free. I have nothing to go by.

Yeah those springs are bad.  They are shown from that angle cause they all have cracks all along the middle tang.  I ordered a dozen of them before and they're horrible.  Wrong metal, squishy bendy, cracked, just bad.  Evidence pictured, this is what they don't show you.  Very deceptive advertising.

After that I made my own.

Yea I need to make my own. I'll be doing a little R&D tomorrow morning to get the measurements and get a shape drawn and stick a chunk of 17-4 in the EDM to start going into production for personal use.
