Was not going to do to much to this new project until next winter, but I can't help myself. :D Today I got that smashed speedo off and replaced it with a nice spare. I also replaced the tach since they came off the same parts bike I got a few years ago. Only thing is the original miles were 15,000 and the speedo now says 27,000, but I was not going to tear the speedo apart for that. Just to get that smashed speedo off there sure improves the appearance. They have my front tire mounted, but are waiting for the spoke weights I requested. Picked up some parts from the dealer today...hold me back ;D

Ha....good luck there.   I had to replace the speedo recently on my H1, I shopped around til I found one with similar mileage.
No mail from VT yet?

Just put the end of the speedo cable in a drill with reverse function, run it backwards to get the mileage you want... ;)

Picked up the switch assembly on the clutch lever. Part number 35360-341-000 has been superceded by
part number 35340-329-003. Only thing is the wire color codes do not match. The OEM switch has a solid green and a green with red stripe. This new one has a solid black and a green with a yellow stripe. I assume the solid black goes where the OEM solid green is? The thing looks a lot like the stop light switch in the CB350 front brake.

I should have looked in my stash as I had a spare there. Put the spare on, but did check DSS and this superseded number is the same one with different color wires as shown in the DSS picture. For future reference anyone know which wire goes where? Might be good to know since they do not follow the color codes. But this one IS the same as used on the front brake (not clutch) of the CB350 as I checked the numbers.

Now that I think about it that switch is only acting like a circuit breaker. Pull in the clutch and it allows the starter to operate. Therefore, it makes no difference which way the 2 wires go.

Continental Tires??? Yikes??? I am starting to question their quality. I picked up the new front tire today and noticed it was splitting between the treads and on the sidewall. Took it back to the dealer. Can not believe they did not see it??? What the heck is up with that??? For some reason that tire did not have the production date code on it so maybe it was in a warehouse for 30 years. Thinking of trying the Dunlop vintage in the future. They are not as costly as the Conti's. Been cleaning rims and the chrome is not to bad under all that dirt. The PO sure liked to use grease. He even had it on the area where the cush rubbers are which made it easy to separate the sprocket hub.

Hey Johnnie...........that does not look like a new tire.

The one good thing about dirt is it sometimes protects the chrome against rust. Looks like it's cleaning up pretty good.

Stev-o...the tire in the pic is the back one which I have not yet replaced. But the sidewall on the front new one did look like this. You ever try the Dunlop? And my VT registration and sticker came today too. They must send the plate and then the registration a week later.

Yes, I have Dunlop 404's on my 550, and also had them on my K7 that I sold last year.
Good tires but I would recommend Bridgestone BT45's or Avon Roadriders before the Dunlops. Great tires.

Bridgestone Spitfires have a vintage look, but about as much cornering feedback as plastic.

My real suggestion though....is Metzeler Lasertec, vintage-ish looks, great performance, long lasting, and available in correct sized 3.25x19 and 4.00x18.  I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them.

Got the new front tire installed. Turned out nice for all the dirt that was on the rim. That Conti tire that I took back in the earlier post...turns out the dealer had accidentally put the old one back on. He thought the order said tube only. I told him it could not have been a new tire there was no nubs on it. Never paid much attention to it when I picked it up. They had it all cleaned up so she did not look to bad...until I saw the cracks :)

Got the sprocket off and cleaned that area. Always nice to see a pristine case with no holes under that grime.
Master and caliper rebuilt and ready. What the heck am I doing...this is supposed to be next winters project! I just can not help myself...:)

This winters project was new swingarm bushings and swingarm paint on the blue / green KO. And putting rear tires on 3 bikes and detailing. That KO was on the lift for a while so I am now just getting to the tires. Never enough time in the day. Then soon we will be on the road for the summer :)

That K3 has all kind's of potential Johnie. Sounds like the PO is a nice guy. Have any idea what brand of pipe that's on the bike right now.

I think those might be Trabakas.  They were pretty popular in the early to mid 70's.  They are indeed loud, and if I remember correctly do nothing for performance.
