Needle replacement on carb!!! need help!!!!
« on: October 12, 2006, 06:09:36 AM »

Hey guys Javi here, just got the correct Keyster carb kits in last night and started to take all the stuff out. When I get to the carb slides to take to replace the needle though, I can't get any of the screws out. No screw driver I own can get those damned things out. Are they a special kind of phillips? And if I strip them where can I buy replacements?!?!?!? I also I can't get clear instructions on where to measeure from to set my float adjustment. Wanna get these things on and fire her up for the first time in two year, but it's lookin' further and further away. :-\ Thanks in advance - Javi

keep the stock needles, unless there's actually something wrong with them.  They don't usually wear out.

Float height is measured from the lip of the carb body where the float bowl meets the carb, with the float tang touching (not closing) the valve needle.

just a regular phillips...i think a #2, but can't remember for sure.  i take the entire slide out, push the arm to one side and negotiate the driver to the screw head, then PUSH AS HARD AS YOU CAN WHILE TURNING so as to not ruin the head.

that said, you'll probably be ok to leave the existing needles.
