750??

Search for the Honda "Field Fix" on the site. It involves acquiring a double metal disc from a 75 -79 Goldwing just as they use on the 77/78 K and F and removing an existing disc. You add extra thickness. The 77/78 uses a wider basket and it can accomodate the extra double disc without removing that one disc.

Yes it's a K2 750, so all I need is the double Goldwing plate? I have found the instructions for the field fix, just want to confirm that all I need is the double plate. Have you done it and how quiet is it? Thanks, Nic.

Put on a louder pipe Nic.... ;D ;)

No, not yet. I installed a 78 K clutch basket in my 75 750(900)F. It has the double plate with the wider basket. What few miles I have put on it have been great. That and the undercut tranny. Smooth as silk and quiet. Oh yeah, it USED to rattle! The 75 F basket with a double plate are going into the 78 750(1000) engine I am beginning. The engine may be done soon but it'll be a while afterwards before the bike is built.

Sounds like you will be reporting before I do  ;)

I found the field fix description.  Remove one friction disk will not end up in slipping clutch?

I noticed a slipping clutch on 5:th gear back in the 80's. (Probably due to wrong oil, car oil with anti friction stuff, Mobil 1)
Easy to reproduce under full acceleration from 4:th to 5:th.
I heard it, release throttle a little and full again almost sounded like shifting to "6:th" gear.

Damn, I'm really understanding Stringbean these days!  ;) Yeah, sync yer carbs good.

How old/worn/thick are your discs? How much play with everything fitted together? What brand? Everyone seems to love Honda's.

The clutch rattle comes with the bike, we all know that. You can synch the carbs and quiet it some. You can set your idle up to a point you lose engine braking.

I do all of those and go one step further. I ignore it.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Rightio then, only a few hours have passed and I have come up with something real simple and it works like a charm, you can even engage the lock while holding in the lever and pushing down on the lock  with your left index finger.
I'm happy to just go with this actually, no need for further development IMO. Will end up making a bush for the bolt so the ID of the hole in the lever doesn't get gouged out and would rather the jamming arm was made of Acetal or some similar hard wearing plastic so as not to gouge out the lever and switch assembly after some time but this'll do me. Pull in the lever and the jammer pops right up, beaudiful.
While the rest of you clowns are holding your crutches at the lights I'll be laughing :P

Experimental engineering (which I applaud) aside... this is incredibly unsafe! I've come to love my clutch rattle when it shows up. Rhonda is whispering sweet nothings to me...

I do applaud the thought and effort to find a solution. I have a K8 which allegedly Honda addressed the problem. With unsynched carbs  I will put my clutch rattle against anyone's.  ;D ;D ;D

It seems one of those things non one can get past. Locking my clutch lever seems a bit extreme.

That's right! Part of the joy of ownership.

I've never heard positive feedback on any fix, from Honda or otherwise that was more than 50/50 effective.
