Differences in CB550 Swing Arm Collars?
« on: February 20, 2015, 12:04:30 PM »
So I assembled my swing arm quite a while back. It was a hodge-podge of parts from 74 550 K and a 77 550 k swingsarms Both were the open-ended style. I used the 74 steel outer caps and inner collar with the 77 swing arm and new bronze bushings with the lip. Ditched the collar and felt pieces that were in the 74.

I noticed there were two different part numbers for the swing arm collars just now. (see links). Would there have been a difference in length for these collars? I remember my swing arm being far harder than usual to install after the rebuild. Almost like it was a mm or two too wide for the frame. I ended up having to loosen all the motor mount bolts and tap the swing arm in with a 2x4 and mallet. I wish I measured in the first place. It's all together with no play and snugs up nice but still falls slowly under it's own weight at 18-25 ft lbs on the bolt.

I'm just curious if differences in collar length were why it was harder and tighter to install. Can anyone chime in?
