Hot Cam Recommendations
« on: December 21, 2006, 10:45:19 AM »
Is anyone running a Megacycle 125-75 cam in their Cb750/836cc?

I am trying to decide which cam to purchase.  I have heard good things about both the Megacycle 125-65 and the 125-75.

I know Terry has a 125-75 but I don't think he's used it yet. I'm running the 125-65 and can say that below 5,000rpm it acts like a stock cam but around 5500-6000 it really takes off. I like it 'cause it allows "sensible" riding around town but as soon as I get the rev's up it really goes.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Sparty, I've got the 65 also and it delivers nice low, excellent mid, and great upper-end performance. I looked at the 75 but decided that without the Carrilo rods I would not be able to use the revs the 75 would need to work. Go back and look at that old porting a 750 head and you'll see not much happens when more lift is applied. The head flow - even ported hit a wall and more lift has deminishing returns. Not worth the low end I "think" you'd lose.

Mike is building me a great engine.  I am putting in Falicon Knife edge rods, so I could get the revs out of the 75, but I do like the idea of power through the mid-range - most of my riding is around 5 to 7K in town.  My new RPM redline will most likely be somewhere near 10K with all of the work Mike is doing.

I'm jealous. I wish I'd have gone with the Carillos like Buzz recommended. I have to get out at 8,500 and it's still pulling. What a waste.
