(yet another) question about tires (tyres)
« on: March 07, 2015, 09:31:37 AM »
OK.......so, off I go to the mancave armed with 2 new Avon Roadriders and all the other bits and bobs for the "Saturday challenge"

Wheels off, old tyres off, inner tubes out, bit of cleaning, etc.......all good.

So, if you're still with me, here's the question.  I had got it into my head that there would be a yellow dot or some kind of marking on the tyre to show the position of the tyre on the rim. ie. yellow dot/mark next to the valve.  Problem is, my tyres are black all the way round!

Can anyone help here?  What is the secret mark?  I've noticed that there is the word DOT on the side of the tyre, could this be the holy grail?

Anyone out there that can crack the secret code?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Not all tires have the yellow dot.  And DOT = Dept of Transportation, that shows they are approved for road use.

Mount em up and then balance.

All the tires that I buy for 3 different bikes never have that balance dot I'm always reading about. When I mount tires, I leave them deflated on the balancer and move the tire around the rim until there as balanced as I can get them before I start with the weights. Sometimes, it's pretty tough to get the tire to spin on the rim, but in the end you'll have to add less weight.

Drawing from my cycling experience, the general rule of thumb in that world is to align the middle of the brand logo with the valve stem. Just makes it look more thought out.
