does this look like a 1974 cb750 engine?
« on: November 17, 2014, 05:21:12 AM »
Seller says this is a 1974 engine but the head appears earlier
He's asking $350, says turns over, I haven't physically seen engine yet.
My toolbox consists mainly of hammers.

Ask him for the engine vin number.  If carbs are included that is a great deal

Engine number is cb750e-1117430, which would make it a 71?

I know this is a few months old but when I searched google for this engine VIN, this thread came up. Ran across a craigslist ad for this motor today and was wondering if any more information was recovered in the last few months...? Messaged the guy and he sent me the same pic posted plus one of the VIN plate and he said that compression is unknown and mileage is unknown. when he bought it the motor was on the frame still and it started but gas poured out of the carbs. the bike has been sitting since the 80's. If any more info is out there, I would greatly appreciate to hear it. Thanks

That is a good deal on a K1 IMO.  Unstuck with carb would be a great base for any project.

Maybe interesting parts inside?
Gasoline pouring out from dirty carbs is normal, right? Clean them

Got him down to $250. I think it's worth it and will pick it up most likely this weekend. It's word of mouth at this point obviously but after a phone call he said the motor turned on before removing it from the frame and ran smoothly till it shut off bc of the carbs flooding with gas apparently.

Also, not too worried about the carbs. I've got my set that is pretty decent which i recently cleaned out thoroughly

If the sprocket cover is still on it, pop it off and make sure there is no chain damage or repairs to the cases around the sprocket area before you take possession. Better to be safe than sorry   ;)  Take your impact driver, its held on by two screws.

ended up getting that motor for free... the guy had some SUPER nice custom HD Sportster show bikes in his garage so needless to say, $250 wasn't much of a concern for him as much as getting the motor out of his way was... he told me to just take the motor and pay him later if the motor runs like he says it would and if it doesn't then its free. Super nice guy even gave me the gas tank, oil tank, side covers, harness, and 4-1 headers with it.
