CB750K2 wiring issue - headlight and indicator light
« on: October 11, 2006, 12:10:26 PM »
Hi all,

I wonder if anyone has a similar experience and can help. I have a new wiring harness for my K2 and it works well i.e. all lights work, indicators work, start button works etc...the rear indicator lights work great when the headlight is OFF but when headlight is ON the rear right-hand indicator light is constantly ON (still flashes when activated but its always ON). I see that the single wire going from the rear right-hand indicator light goes to the BLUE wire (whereas the left-hand rear indicator goes to the ORANGE wire). Looking at the wiring diagram for the K2 I cant see how Ive gone wrong? Have I missed something? Has this happened to anyone before and how did you fix it!?

Thanks for any info on this...its going to be tonights project!
cheers

Could the indicator wireing have got hooked up with the high beam indicator light perhaps?
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

Did you pinch something in the underseat/Fender area?

Sounds like the turn signal is either hooked to the brake light or ya have a wire crossed/nicked

Where the light is mounted or bolted to the frame - make sure there is good contact area- no rust...it's surprising what a little rust will do to connections.. also wiggle the tail light a lttle bit when using the headlight I suppose would possibly point to this area if not grounded right or clean.. :)

good luck - post the result

Hi all,
Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and as always much appreciated. Problem is now fixed!

I opened up the headlight shell and played around with the wires - the back two blinkers were now both on all the time (with headlight on) so I thought it looked like "running lights"....well found the culprit wire - a light blue/white wire plugged into the 4-way connector for the light blue wires (which are for the blinkers)....I had done this a while ago thinking this is where it belonged - the LB/W wire comes out of the left hand switch (handlebar) - poilished chrome-like and unkown year....I unplugged it and blinkers now function normally and all lights still work....so not sure exactly what the LB/W wire does but seems its not required - at least for the K2 (as there is no LB/W wire in the wiring diagram)..incidentally the wiring diagram shows a coloured wire (blue or orange) and a green wire for each rear blinker but I only have a single colour wire for each...and stock blinkers were the same (I know have aftermarker clear lenes on the back with orange blubs - very cool)....can anyone confirm the existence of the green wire coming from the rear blinkers on the K2??? Just curious.....

thanks again,
Andy in Boston

Grounding thru the frame.

You have the rubber grommets installed where the signals mount?

No there are no rubber grommets there. It mounts against the frame with a metal spacer.

Both my K2's have a U shaped grommet between the tab on the grab rail and the turn signal.

Hence the green wire.

There will be an orange/white to go with that blue/white and they are for the later model with the BIG indicators and front running lights
