Cycle X Sidewinder 4-into-1 for CB750 K4
« on: April 04, 2016, 12:00:12 PM »
I saw some old posts about installation difficulty and fit and can you make right hand turns that all had me hesitate.  A fellow forum member gave these the big thumbs up when I PM'd him.  I bothered Cycle X with about 8 calls with different questions before I bought and they were very helpful, and for the benefit of anyone considering these here is my 2 cents after install:
- Installation ---> really easy - duct tape over blue tape to protect frame - rotate the flanges so there is more room, maybe 10lbs pressure to widen gap to get around frame tubes. No Sweat. Note that 1 and 4 exhaust ports sit further forward than 2-3. I wasted a lot of time thinking that they were not in far enough when they were fine. DOH!
- Sound --> freakin awesome! say no more. i will be near idling out of the hood though.
- Quality/Finish --> Very nice black finish - and beatiful stainless muffler. looks very high quality=happy
- Fitment --> these are now specific to SOHC and the fit is perfect - within millimeters of the frame tight it. I would like to see who lays the bike down low enough on turns to scrape these, but it aint gonna be me.
TBD - have not installed rear brake yet, but will report back if anything less then the level of awesomeness that I am happy to report.  ps. Ken and company were super helpful when I was screwing up.

yeah good luck with rear brake! never worked for me. when I had the sidewinder installed i couldn't use my rear brake to stop.. it was enough to keep the rear wheel one the ground but thats about it.

I had a vance and hines sidewinder on my 750 for awhile(i think thats the one cycle x is selling). I loved it sounded awesome but it did drag the ground alot and did get in the way of the rear brake. More of a drag bike pipe.

Sidewinders are generally made for drag racing...right turns are not encouraged.
If it works good, it looks good...

Well some of us find it easy to scrape the pegs {and it is easy}, so a sidewinder is just asking for trouble, they are indeed made for straight line bikes. Not trying to be an ass here but, I often wonder just how competent a rider is when I read statements like that...?

Your competency suspicions are correct! Far more enthusiasm than experience. Had dirt bikes and cb400s in college, and grad school. had not ridden in 25 years, only 5k miles since first rebuild was finished last august. Love these bikes wahoo! Hope to get competent enough to scrape these babies and then I'll upgrade - I gotta tilt the bike once I finish lacing up new rims - just seems like it would take a lot, live (hopefully) and learn.

Just watch out when scraping a pipe thats solidly mounted, the pegs fold up when scraped, the pipe won't, you'll be sliding down the road before you know it, be careful  ... ;)
