gas tank model clarification
« on: February 27, 2015, 05:32:12 AM »
I've read all the threads I can find(sure im missing some) about how to tell what tank I have or need
here's the issue:

I have a 1974 CB550K and the seat tank have a large space between them , like a dummy I assumed it was a seat issue , but after getting a stock 75' K seat its the same!!
so it seems that my tank is the issue

So is the 500K tank smaller? if so how do I know the difference ?
It looks as though the Early 550 tanks have the same ,500 K petcocks , so that threw me off also.

any help greatly appreciated

Hey!

I have the 550 f1 with stock tank and stock seat and i have also a little gap inbetween. Mine is not too big to worry about.

The early tanks have an external chrome flip latch and are shorter. The newer tanks have a recessed filler point with a painted cover and these tanks are longer. I hope that helps.

The 500 and early 550 tanks are the same. The one you have with the external filler cap and latch. The 550 tanks with the recessed and covered filler caps are longer.

If it truly is a 74, you have the correct style tank for the motorcycle.

Can you show me a link to the seat you bought?

The tank looks correct, but seat looks like off of different bike.  Post better pics of the seat

Thanks for the help , yes after more research it seems both the seats I have are off newer 550's , hence being shorter

Thanks again
