Rim sizes to Avon RoadRiders
« on: March 02, 2015, 05:11:27 PM »
Can you all comment on tyres for stock rim diameters (Front 19" and Rear 18") to match Avon RoadRiders.

What rim and tyre widths combinations have worked well for you?  -- Example:  100/90-19 (Front) and 130/70V18 (Rear).

Thank you

Those tires fit a 2.15x19 front and a 3.5x 18 rear nicely, putting those size tires on smaller rims is not recommended... ;)

I just got roadriders on my k2 with 19" front, 18" rear. I got the tires in the size listed in my manual, 3.25-19 front and 4.00-18 rear. They look great, sorry I cant comment on the ride yet, hopefully in a week or so.

Avon are one of the few who make modern tires in the exact size prescribed to our bike, 3.25-19 front & 4.00-18 rear.
100/90-19 & 120/90-18 are the closest equivalent in in modern sizing, but are slightly bigger.

Avon Catalog sizes so you can see where the differences are:
Model   Tire Size     Rec Rim-Rim Min-Max    OW mm-OW Inches   OD mm-OD Inches Depth mm   Revs per km-Revs per Mile
AM26   120/90-18   2.75    2.50 - 3.00             129         5.1            675        26.6            7.5                491                784.9
AM26   4.00-18       2.50    2.15 - 3.00             116         4.6            671        26.4            7.5                493                789.6
AM26   100/90-19   2.50    2.15 - 2.75             109         4.3            671        26.4            5.6                493                789.6
AM26   3.25-19       2.15    1.85 - 2.50             98           3.9            664        26.1            5                   499                797.9

I've ran sets of both sizes now, on a 76' 750F.  The 100/120/s look nice and beefy and do fine, but after switching back to stock sizes i was definitely able to feel the difference in lean dive etc.  I believed I felt differences in handling that made me prefer the stock sizes.

Thanks all for the info.

One final question is this:

Are you guys using stock rim widths (1.85"Front and 2.15"Rear) with the  100/90-19 and 120/90-18 setups?
According to Avon min widths call for larger rims.

Different companies have different allowances.
Check with the company that makes the tires.
I called AVON, and you can use the 130 on the rear with Avon Road Rider 26's.
For the front you can use their RoadRider 26 that is multi directional.
